2023 MLB Award Predictions

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

The MLB regular season has come to an end so it’s time to predict the awards.

NL MVP

This might be the most predicted and most obvious of them all. Ronald Acuña Jr. was already a star coming into this season. He had the best season since 2019. And that was nothing compared to what he’s doing now. In 2019 he ended the season with 41 home runs and 37 stolen bases with an OPS of .883 and a 5.5 WAR. In 2023 he had an even better season ending the season with 41 home runs 73 stolen bases, an OPS of 1.012 and an 8.1 WAR. He had the highest batting average on the Braves with a .337 AVG. The second person on the Braves Matt Olson with a .281, a big gap between Averages. With his 30th home run on August 1st he became the first player in MLB history to have a 30-60 season but in late September he got his 40th home run and his 70th stolen base to make an even harder milestone to beat.

AL MVP

The AL MVP was a little harder to predict than the NL but still pretty easy. Shohei Ohtani, the future Hall of Famer from Oshu Japan is ready for his 2nd MVP award. After his injury some people thought that he wouldn’t win MVP. Although it did give players like Corey Seager and Julio Rodríguez to try to prove to the voters that they should win MVP, Shohei still has it. During the regular season he posted a .304 batting average with 44 home runs and 95 RBI with a 1.066 OPS. He is also a two-way player who is a top 10 hitter and a top 10 pitcher posting a 3.14 ERA with a 6.6 WAR.

NL Rookie of the year

The outfielder from Seattle is ready for his turn at the rookie of the year. During the season Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks posted a .285 batting average 76 RBI 54 stolen bases, an OPS of .868 OPS and a 5.4 WAR. The NL rookie of the year was kind of hard to predict because it was close between him and Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals who posted a .276 batting average 16 home runs 51 RBI and a .787 OPS.

AL Rookie of the year

Gunnar Henderson, the rookie from Montgomery, Alabama is ready to win rookie of the year. Henderson, the 22 year old rookie, ended the season with a .255 batting average 82 RBI and a .814 OPS with a 6.3 WAR. It was close between him and the rookie from California who ended the season with a 2.98 ERA 141 strikeouts and a WAR of 3.6.

AL Cy Young

Gerrit Cole is ready for his first Cy Young. Gerrit Cole in the last five years has finished top five for it but has never won. The veteran from California 2.63 ERA a .789 W% and a 222 strikeouts. It was close but not too close between him and Mariners starter Luis Castillo who ended the season with a 3.34 ERA a .609 W% and 222 strikeouts. The only reliever in the conversation is Matt Brash who ended the season with 3.06 ERA he made a league leading 78 appearances for relievers in 2023. He also had 107 strikeouts.

NL Cy Young

The three time veteran from Somerdale, New Jersey is ready for a Cy Young. Starter Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks ended the season with a 3.47 ERA and 220 strikeouts. He also went 17-9 with a 1.12 WHIP. Many people are saying it should go to Blake Snell but he wasn’t even an All-Star considering Gallen was the All-Star starter for the National League. Snell did have a better ERA at 2.25 but at least the diamondbacks had success the padres didn’t make the playoffs and only won 82 games.

AL Manager of the Year

The great manager from Santa Rosa is ready to win manager of the year. The Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde after not even making the playoffs last year and then won their division the next in probably the best division in baseball getting 101 wins. In 2022 the orioles finished the season with only 83 wins. And in 2021 it was even worse ending with a 52-110 record and was 40.0 games back from even the wild card and 48.0 games back from the division! Brandon Hyde really turned the Orioles from being one of the worst teams to one of the best.

NL. Manager of the Year

The outstanding manager from Santa, Monica is ready for a Manager of the year award. The Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo deserves manager of the year why? Because he turned the Diamondbacks from being one of the worst teams to one of the best. In 2022 they finished second to last going 74-88 13.0 games back of even the wild card. In 2021 they were even worse going 52-110 38.0 games back of the wild card and 55.0 games back of the division. But in 2023 Torey Lovullo helped them turn it around making the playoffs, clinching the third wild card, finishing runner up in the division, and going 84-78.
