Where Will Ohtani Sign?

Updated: Dec 5, 2023

Shohei Ohtani is still a free agent. The Winter Meetings are coming up too, and hopefully after the Meetings happen, we will get a result. The possible suitors are: The LA Dodgers, The Chicago Cubs, The LA Angels, and The Toronto Blue Jays. The San Francisco Giants might be in it too, but it can't be confirmed. I wonder if Ohtani moves, will the Angels change their home run celebration?

On the bottom are the teams.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are the most possible signer, Because they have money. I guess that they already have stars like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts, but they only made it to the NLDS this year, so it's probably not enough. LA tried to sign Ohtani when he was in high school, but it didn't work. Now the franchise is following him around again, trying to get him to sign.

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs need him bad, maybe even the most. Their biggest slugger in 2023, Cody Bellinger, is probably going to leave through free agency, so sluggers are limited with Dansby Swanson and Seiya Suzuki on the Cubbies. Maybe the Cubs will try to quit on the Ohtani chase, and try to sign Bellinger?

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels don't seem very likely to me, because they haven't had much success with him. They rarely even get to the Wild Card with both him and Mike Trout, one of his slugging teammates. LAA would need a really good team to get close to the World Series. Maybe it's just me, maybe is the manager.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Jays are good, and they want to load up on all the stock. They've had a fair amount of Postseason berths, so if Ohtani wants to win, then this is the team. They already have Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who won the 2023 Home Run Derby, so the Jays are stacked already. They don't "Need" Ohtani, so they wouldn't be terrible without him, but they would like him to help them.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants' chance of getting him is very low, but even if they don't get him, they probably can make up for it by getting other stars like Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Giants were 79 wins and 83 loses, so I think they need Ohtani.
