Diamondbacks come back in big game

Updated: Oct 23, 2023

It was game 4 of the NLDS and the Diamondbacks were down in the series 2-1 so two Phillies' wins would help the advance but the Diamondbacks weren't going to let them go easy. The starters were Cristopher Sánchez for the Phillies and Joe Mantiply for the Diamondbacks. There were concerns for both pitchers Mantiply on his last start had a concerning 9.00 ERA and on the Phillies side Sánchez hadn't pitched since the September. The action started in the bottom of the 2nd when Emmanuel Rivera hit a single to score Christian Walker from third to make it 1-0 Arizona. And in the 3rd Gabriel Moreno hit an RBI single into left field to score Ketel Marte from 3rd. But in the 4th Kyle Schwarber hit a ball to the moon to make it 2-1. But Brandon Marsh didn't want to miss out on the action so in the 5th he hit a double to the deepest part of the field to score J.T. Realmuto. But things got interesting when Alec Bohm hit a ground ball to Rivera he tried to throw it home but he threw it wild causing 2 runs to score to make it 4-2. But that wasn't enough for the Phillies because Trea Turner hit a sac fly to score Johan Rojas to make it 5-2. But it didn't take long for the Diamondbacks to respond because in the 7th Christian Walker walked with the bases loaded to score Geraldo Perdomo from 3rd to make it 5-3. But in the 8th Alex Thomas hit a clutch 2 run home run to make it 5-5. And in that same inning Gabriel Moreno hit a go ahead single in to the right center field gap to score Ketel Marte and make it 6-5. And in the 9th Paul Sewald got the job done and struck out Trea Turner to seal a game 4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies to tie the series at 2 a piece.
